Kingsland recognizes retiring school board members

The Kingsland School District recognized its outgoing members recently. Pictured above are Superintendent Strosahl, retiring board members Robert Grabau, Jane Baker and Tom Kaase.

It was the end of the year for the Kingsland School Board and members recognized the retiring members, Robert Grabau, Jane Baker and Tom Kaase at the December 15 meeting. Baker has a total of 8 years along with Tom Kaase also with 8 years. Robert Grabau has served 18 years as a member of the Kingsland School Board. Each of them received a ginger bread house that looked like a school, plaques and Knightwear jackets from the Student Council. Superintendent Strosahl thanked the members for their efforts and devotion to the education of the student's in the District.

Two donations from the District were recognized by Superintendent Strosahl. Tri County Electric donated $250 and the area Masons made a donation of $10,000 for a new Lathe in the shop program.

There was discussion from the Board as Business Manager Kathy Beevers presented the financial agenda items. She stated that there has been a reduction in 11th and 12th graders that are taking the Post Secondary Education Option and attending Rochester Community Technical College. The number given is 11 seniors and 4 juniors that are not attending classes in the District, which means a reduction in the Per Pupil Basic Formula from $5,124 to less than $1,000. The Board will be working with the Administration in analyzing this trend.

The Board also approved the proposed Levy for 2009. The final figure was $1,830,372.15 which is an 8.66% increase from the 2008 figure of $1,684,441.83.

A medical unpaid leave of absence was granted to Peter Reck for one year. Jennifer Dessner was hired as the Community Education Coordinator and the Teacher Seniority list was approved by the Board.

The next meeting will be Monday, January 5, 2009 when new Board members will be installed. The next regular meeting will be Wednesday, January 21. Both meetings will be in the Kingsland Conference Room at 5:00 p.m.
