The best ways to prevent flu are to wash your hands often and get an influenza vaccination. Flu vaccinations are recommended every year regardless of the flu strains placed in the vaccine. Getting a vaccination each year refreshes your body's ability to detect and protect against influenza.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that anyone over the age of six months receive a flu vaccine. New for 2011-2012, the American Committee on Immunization Practice (ACIP) is encouraging people with egg allergies to work with their health care provider to see if they should receive a flu vaccination.
Fillmore County Public Health will be offering seasonal influenza vaccinations to the public at clinics held the following dates, times, and locations.
September 20 from 3:30 to 6:30 PM at the Lanesboro School located at 100 Kirkwood East, Lanesboro, MN.
September 27 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mabel-Canton School located at 316 Fillmore Avenue, Mabel, MN.
September 29 from 12:00 to 7:00 PM at the Fillmore County Office Building, 902 Houston Street, Preston, MN.
September 30 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Fillmore County Office Building, 902 Houston Street, Preston, MN.
The cost of the flu vaccination is $25.00 each. Adults with Medicare Part B and both adults and children with a Minnesota Health Care Plan can receive the flu vaccination free of charge if their insurance cards are presented at the clinic.
To make your experience quicker, wear a short sleeve shirt and bring the age-appropriate completed vaccination form with you to a clinic. If you would like to complete your influenza vaccine paper work in advance go to http://www.co.fillmore.mn.us/ and print the appropriate child or adult form. Bring the form along with your insurance card or other payment to the clinic with you. For more information about flu vaccinations, call Fillmore County Public Health at 507-765-3898 or visit http://www.co.fillmore.mn.us/
