One moment, please... Serving Fillmore County

As I have visited with Fillmore County residents and business owners, I have arrived at the conclusion that if our masthead says "Fillmore County Journal," then we need to do our best to make sure every household in Fillmore County receives our newspaper.

Today, we are beginning a continuous long-term investment to better serve our readers and the businesses who advertise in the Fillmore County Journal -- by initiating home delivery in Chatfield and Ostrander; amounting to more than a 16% boost in our distribution. At the same time we are increasing our distribution, we will not be raising advertising rates; essentially giving our customers more without charging them more.

In addition, this will require a substantial investment in news resources, covering city council meetings, school board meetings, and enterprise stories exclusive to Chatfield and Ostrander.

While many subscription-based daily and weekly newspapers are cutting costs at the same time they are losing circulation, I think now is the time to make investments in the people we serve in Fillmore County.

You may recall seeing "Mayo One rests at FC Airport," on the cover of the June 15, 2009 Fillmore County Journal. We were the first media company to announce that story because we had a community connection who gave us the scoop. I was so grateful of that connection entrusting us with that information that I gave this person a $25 Branding Iron gift card late last week. I can't guarantee I'll be handing out gift cards to everyone who calls me with a story idea, but I will certainly appreciate your help with keeping me in the loop on all the happenings of Fillmore County.

I'm going to give you my personal cellular phone number so you can reach me any time.

It's 507-251-5297. I hope to hear from you soon!
