(Washington, DC) - The following statement can be attributed to Congressman Tim Walz. Mr. Jeff Korsmo, Executive Director of the Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center was Congressman Walz's guest at tonight's Joint Session of Congress.
"I'm pleased that the President came out tonight and told Americans the three basic goals his plan meets, how it meets those goals, and what it will mean to them. Time is of the essence - Americans have waited decades and they can wait no longer for reform. The cost is too high for our families, our businesses, our health care providers and our communities to bear any longer. I am hopeful that tonight's speech will move the debate in a more productive direction and I am confident that we are going to get meaningful reform that helps the Minnesota families like the Winkworths of Mankato and the Arends of Rochester, whom I have heard from in the last few weeks and in the last few years."
"Tonight, I am proud to be joined by Jeff Korsmo, Executive Director of the Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center. The Mayo Clinic is a world leader in providing high quality and cost effective care. I think what the President said tonight is consistent with that. Jeff Korsmo and his colleagues at the Mayo Clinic told me what reforms they need to keep delivering the world's best health care. As we move forward, I'm hopeful that any final bill will be consistent with the goals we heard tonight and the reforms supported by the best medical minds at Mayo."
