The school board of the Lanesboro Independent School District met for its regular monthly meeting at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, November 19. Prior to their regular meeting, the board met with State Senator Sharon Ropes for an open Q & A session. All board members were present. Chairman David Ruen called the meeting to order. The board approved the agenda with one additional item: the need to approve four new contracts. The minutes from the October board meeting were approved.

New Business

The board approved October bills, financial statements and Treasurer's Report without discussion.

Pam Ristau, certified public accountant, presented the 2008-2009 Audit Report to the board and stated that she found no issues and that the district was in a positive position. After some discussion, Board Chair Ruen thanked Ristau for her overview of the report.

The board unanimously approved dismissing school at 11:14 a.m. the day before Christmas break. They noted that even with the early out, the day would be counted as a full day.

Superintendent Jeff Boggs informed the board that there is no longer a requirement by the state to conduct a separate tax hearing meeting. He added that the December board meeting will include tax hearing and budget discussions as part of its regular meeting, which will be conducted on December 17th at 7 p.m.

Boggs also brought four new contracts for the board to consider for approval: three contracts were for junior high coaches and one for the school play advisor. The board approved all four contracts.

Prior to adjourning, Chairman Ruen wanted to formally acknowledge the passing of head custodian Jake Semmen. "He was a key person in our school and played a major role in several of our building projects throughout the years," he said. Ruen acknowledged the importance of a custodian in the overall operation of a school. "We lost a die hard Burro fan," he added.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
