Beef educational opportunities this winter

Cattle Feeder Days will be held at the following locations: Morris (Dec. 7) - 9:30-1:30 pm; Luverne (Dec. 8) - 6:00 -9:00 pm; Slayton (Dec. 9) - 9:30-1:30 pm; Lamberton (Dec. 10) - 9:30-1:30pm and Rochester - 6:00-9:00 pm. Registration will start 30 minutes prior to program start time and is $30.00/person ($15/additional person from the same farm or family) and includes a meal and program proceedings. Topics include: Feedlot Heifer Nutrition and Management, Finish Weights and the Meat Processing Industry, Nutrient Management as a Profit Center in the Feedlot, and Practical Reflections on Feedlot Nutrition and Management. Cow/Calf Health Management will be offered for the 2010 Home Study Course. The Home Study Course for 2010 will focus on Cow/Calf Health Management. Topics include: Common Diseases of the Beef Cattle Herd, Internal and External Parasite Control, Antibiotic Use, Biosecurity, and Quality Assurance, Herd Health Calendars, Newborn Calf Care, and Preparing Calves for Weaning. Registration is $50 for the course and registration will be due December 30, 2009, with first lessons in the mail by January 15. 2010 Beef Cow/Calf Days schedule for February is: Staples (2), Bagley (2), Lancaster (3), Baudette (4), Grand Rapids (5), Mora (8), Glenwood (9), Pipestone (10), Rochester (11), and New Prague (12). Topics for this year's Cow Calf Day program theme is Back to Basics and will include: The Basics and Cost of Developing Heifers, What's to Know about Grazing Systems, The Economics Behind the Cow, Producer/Speaker Panel-Keeping the Younger Generation in the Beef Business, and Current Beef Team Updates.
