After being listed by CityPages last year as the most exciting new band in the Twin Cities, Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles are popular and frequent guest artists all over Minneapolis and St Paul, playing well-known places like First Ave, the Dakota, and the Varsity. This year they toured the Midwest and the East Coast garnering a great review in the New York Times. Adding to their ever-increasing popularity, this year iTunes have published them as one of Minneapolis' essentials.
Lucy's solo act has been performed nearly as often as with her band. She is described as a "dash of equal parts old-time, mountain, blue grass, gypsy, folk, punk, pop and with the whistle of Andew Bird."
Thanks to the efforts of Patrick Danz of Slant Street Mercantile and Denny Bell and Rocky Haddorff of Belle River Bed and Breakfast, Lucy is bringing her solo act to Lanesboro on Friday, December 18th at the Lanesboro Legion and Saturday, December 19th at the Sons of Norway. On the same bill will be Cooper James Patrick Sheehan and Truman Danz playing solo as well as debuting with Lucy in a just-formed trio, Kid Rock.
Here is what Lucy says about them:
"Cooper James Patrick Sheehan sings songs like a railroad rambler and tells stories of animals in the ocean. With a quick wit and a big heart Cooper has been known to charm audiences of all ages."
"Truman Danz can cover a song better than the original as well as write his own beautiful tales of anguish, heartache and love."
Kid Beast, consisting of Lucy, Cooper and Truman, combine their musical talents to create what they all believe is the definitive trio. Using a multitude of different instruments and vocal harmonies they perform songs full of life and deep feeling. They are unheard by any other ear but their own, and will perform their debut songs for Lanesboro.
The over-21 performance on Friday the 18th begins upstairs at the Lanesboro Legion at 9 pm and is free. The performance at the Lanesboro Sons of Norway is open to all ages for the cost of only 5.00 each. It begins at the family friendly time of 7pm.
