Bluff Country Woodworks raises the bar

In a workshop resting up on the "South Hill" on the outskirts of Preston, Minn., resides Mike and Kari Odenbrett, proud owners of a new woodworking business established in June of 2009.
While this may be a new business to the City of Preston, the owners are loaded with experience. Kari has a degree in marketing, along with being employed at the Mayo Clinic, and Mike has dedicated the past 27 years of his life to honing his woodworking talents from the time he was 17-years-old.
Even dating back to Mike's years in high school, he was an overachiever in the arena of woodworking. While other students were making coat racks and birdhouses, Mike was handcrafting beautiful, high quality works of art.
And, along with the incredible talent, Mike has all of the tools and the location to get the job done.
Mike even drew up the plans for his workshop and then constructed the entire project on his own.
Since launching the new business, Mike has been very busy helping local residents with custom repairs inside their homes, along with special requests for dressers and bookshelves.
In a region full of older homes, a business like Bluff Country Woodworks offers opportunities to restore and maintain historic and distinct character, while also offering customized options for new contruction homeowners seeking options to fit the decor of a particular space or a room.
And, when people are looking for workmanship that will last, that happens to be a specialty of Bluff Country Woodworks. Mike purchases all of his kiln-dried hardwood from the locally owned and operated Root River Hardwoods, also located in Preston, Minn.
As Mike indicated in the interview, the price of the project is determined by the type of wood a customer requests. Since he specializes in high-end materials, he takes pride in letting his customers know that his finished products are built to last.
With any new business venture, growth is often slow to start but eventually compounds exponentially. The Odenbretts have been getting busier and busier as customers showcase their finished projects to friends and family.
