The "Carbon Credits" Woodland Advisor session will be Thursday, January 21, 2010, 6:00 - 9:00 pm downstairs at the Houston Community Center, 109 W. Maple St., Houston.

Farmers, grassland, and woodland owners have an opportunity to receive payments for conservation tillage methods or recent plantings of perennial grasses and trees by selling carbon credits through the Chicago Climate Exchange. The credits are purchased by companies to aid and abate the global climate change through carbon sequestration. Learn more about how to qualify for carbon credit payments and how plants sequester carbon! There is a fee of $20, pre-registration is appreciated. For further information contact Angela Gupta 507280-2869 or agupta@umn.edu and to register contact Mary Jane Stearns, 888-241-4536 or mstearns@umn.edu

The "Climate Change and the Minnesota Woods" Woodland Advisor session will be Thursday, February 11, at 6:00 pm in Room 108, County Office Building, 902 Houston Street NW, Preston.

Climate change is everywhere in the news these days. But how will it affect Minnesota's forests? This presentation will begin with a review of how our forests came to be what they are today, including glacier activity, timber harvesting, development, and more. We'll then discuss possible impacts of current changing climate and some steps that landowners and land managers can take to prepare.

There is a fee of $20, pre-registration is appreciated. Contact Angela Gupta for questions 507-280-2869 or agupta@umn.edu, and Mary Jane Stearns to register 888-241-4536 or mstearns@umn.edu
