A Fillmore man died as the result of a logging accident in Carimona Township. Kenneth 'Kent' Erding, age 60, was operating a chainsaw when a tree fell on him at around 11:40am on Thursday (10-20-11).
According to Fillmore County Sheriff Daryl Jensen, Erding was logging with another person about 5 miles south of Preston. Jensen said the skidder operator left the area where Erding was cutting trees for a short time and found Erding when he returned. Jensen said there was evidence that Erding had partially cut at least one tree and was cutting another when the tree fell on top of him. Sheriff Jensen said moderate winds may have caused tree to fall. Erding was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preston Ambulance and Preston Fire responded to the scene. The accident remains under investigation by the Fillmore County Sheriff's Office and the Regional Medical Examiner's Office.
