Minnesota Attorney General applauded for trying to stop Asian Carp

ST. PAUL, MN- The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy applauds Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson's decision to file a brief supporting Michigan's legal action to force Illinois to close a canal and stop Asian Carp from invading Lake Michigan.
"This is a case of the government doing what it is supposed to do," said Scott Strand, MCEA Executive Director. "The attorney general deserves credit for independently weighing the threat to Minnesota's natural resources and taking appropriate legal action to protect Lake Superior."
Early last week, Swanson filed the brief with the U.S. Supreme Court supporting Michigan's effort to secure a preliminary injunction against reopening the Lake Michigan Diversion Project and allowing Asian Carp to invade Lake Michigan. There is evidence that Asian Carp are moving into Lake Michigan through the canal, which connects Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River watershed in Chicago.
