St. Paul---The Minnesota AFL-CIO has endorsed Mark Ritchie for Secretary of State and Rebecca Otto for State Auditor for re- election. The seventy member General Board made their decision in time for the start of the caucus and convention season.

"Affiliates are confident these candidates will work hard for union members and working families across the state," said Minnesota AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson.

Ritchie, who currently serves as Minnesota's Secretary of State, is a champion for voters' rights. He has worked tirelessly for necessary improvements in the election system, including reforms to absentee ballots for Military Personnel Serving Overseas and making voting more accessible to voters with disabilities .

Minnesota State Auditor Rebecca Otto is a strong advocate for local governments. She has helped local governments reduce overhead while protecting jobs and improving service. Otto is persistent in her pursuit to expose that the 'no-new-taxes' mantra has shifted the states' financial mess onto property taxes.

President Shar Knutson said of the endorsements, "Both Mark Ritchie and Rebecca Otto will continue to be effective voices for the working families in our state and will work to promote a progressive families' agenda. We're proud to endorse them for 2010."

The Minnesota AFL-CIO is made up of more than 1,000 affiliates representing over 300,000 working men and women throughout the state.
