Lanesboro Arts Center will present internationally-acclaimed Israeli pianist and composer Anat Fort in concert on Saturday, March 20, 7:30 p.m. at the St. Mane Theatre in Lanesboro, Minn. Anat Fort will perform with Adam Linz on bass and J.T. Bates on drums. The concert will include her own compositions, like Lanesboro, a tune she wrote while here in 2005 for an artist residency, and Minnesota, which she wrote while on retreat in New York Mills, Minn. (these songs will be on her forthcoming new recording). Anat will also perform some classics from older recordings like Lullaby, as well as some surprises for the audience here. . . including a new composition especially for this concert!
Anat Fort has received wide acclaim from reviewers: Matt Rand writes, "Anat Fort's music is very expressive . . . sometimes she conveys emotion with idiosyncrasies, other times with an uncomfortable note slipped into the middle of a ballad. Her occasional moments of solo playing are always flights of fancy." She tours internationally, playing frequently in her adopted home of New York City, but this will be her first time performing with Adam and J.T. as a trio (she went to college with Adam and now he and J.T. perform together regularly). This looks to be a special night of talent in Lanesboro. "Anat Fort writes music that is . . . a skillful mix of the romantic and the cerebral, like watching a flower open, an enthralling combination of geometry and color, but always with a propulsive swing," writes George Robinson in The Jewish Week.
Tickets are available in advance at the Arts Center galleries at 103 Parkway Ave N in Lanesboro (open Tues.-Sat. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.), and at the door one hour prior to the performance at the St. Mane Theatre, 206 Parkway Ave N in Lanesboro. For more information call 507-467-2446.
Presented by the Lanesboro Arts Center, the new name of the recently merged organizations, the Lanesboro Art Council and the Cornucopia Art Center. Its mission is to serve as a regional catalyst for artistic excellence and educational development in providing diverse art experiences for people of all ages.
