The evening of March 30th the Preston Area Arts Council is sponsoring a special music program featuring Fillmore Central School District's choral instructor, Sara Blessing. The event will include a talk by Ms. Blessing as well as a performance by the student choral group, The Tapestry Singers.
Born and raised in Tripoli, Iowa, Ms. Blessing attended Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, and graduated with a degree in K-12 Music Education and Vocal Performance in 2004. While a student at Luther College, Ms. Blessing received the Weston Noble Music Scholarship, an achievement award in Fine Arts, was a soloist in the Cathedral Choir and Nordic Choirs, and a student conductor of the Nordic Choir.
Ms. Blessing has taught at the Fillmore Central Schools since 2005, is choir director for the adult choir at Decorah Lutheran Church, and is an associate conductor for the Decorah Chorale, an adult community choir. Despite this busy schedule, she still finds time to teach private piano and voice lessons. Recently, Ms. Blessing was awarded a full assistantship to attend Oklahoma State University in the fall of 2010. She will pursue her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Choral Conducting with Z. Randall Stroope and will be leaving Fillmore Central Schools.
The Preston Area Arts Council proudly presents an opportunity for the public to hear an inspirational talk by Ms. Blessing and to hear the marvelous voices of The Tapestry Singers. The evening will include refreshments provided by Traditions of Preston and an occasion for attendees to visit with Ms. Blessing and the students, and to wish her well in her new professional endeavors. This free event will be held on Tuesday, March 30th, at Traditions of Preston, 608 Winona St., Preston, MN, at 7:00 pm.
