Mankato, Minn. (March 29, 2010) - The AgStar Fund for Rural America, a corporate giving program for AgStar Financial Services, is offering $50,000 to rural communities as part of their Feasibility Study Grant Program. This grant program, available to rural communities in AgStar's local service area, provides funding for feasibility studies which will determine the viability of a project. The primary goal of these studies is to help communities with their economic development needs.
In 2007, the Fund established the Feasibility Study Grant Program to provide funding for areas such as market analysis, cost analysis or economic assessments. To date, nearly $90,000 has been contributed to area communities.
"AgStar is committed to providing opportunities for rural residents, and this grant program provides us another avenue to support our local communities," mentioned John Monson, Vice President of AgStar's Rural Capital Network. The outcome of the study has the potential to create new permanent jobs resulting in economic development for communities. "These studies provide the framework, and the analysis rural communities need for development. Our goal is to keep communities healthy and prosperous by economic development, infrastructure needs, and revitalization projects."
Any non-profit organization serving rural areas, educational institutions, and state, county, local or tribal governments in AgStar's local service area are eligible to apply. Applications for grants, up to $5,000, are available online at www.AgStar.com.
Since it's inception in 2001, the AgStar Fund has donated more than $2.9 million to organizations working to improve the future of rural America. The Fund's mission is to "enhance the quality of life and future opportunities for rural residents and their communities." The Fund focuses on one of the four key areas of support: Education, Technology, Environment and Quality of Life.
