The tenth annual Bluff Country Studio Art Tour will take place April 23 - 25th. The hours are 10 AM to 5PM daily. The wide variety of arts in the tour offers something for everyone. Here is your chance to buy directly from area artists of the finest quality. Keep your money in the community. Buy American, support your local artists. Functional pottery, ceramic sculpture, rattan baskets, fiber art, turned wood, reed baskets and wooden furniture, functional glass vessels, handmade jewelry, fountains, photography featuring the Mississippi river valley, original pastels and oil paintings and more are yours to choose from.
The tour ranges from Northern Iowa to Winona and from the Big River to Chatfield. This year's tour includes the Minnesota Marine Art Museum with four galleries full of historic marine paintings, photographs, etc. and wood sculpture by Leo Smith and Marilyn Smith. Anne Scott Plummer, figure sculpture, Karen Lewis, Minnesota flowers and wildlife paintings and Mike Knox, functional stoneware join the tour this year at the Winona Knitting Mills. Barbara Keith with glass mosaics; Mariella TerBeest-Schladweiler, tapestry purses; Roger Meyer, turned wood; Karen Misseldine, functional pottery; and new this year,John Kjome, stoneworks will be at Lanesboro Community Center. Joel Sampson will show his fountains at his home in Lanesboro. Sue Pariseau found an old schoolhouse to show her pottery. Mary Denzer, Seven Bridges Pottery in Houston, MN, will be on the tour. Stop at Vicky Kurk's Clover Hill Studio in Spring Grove and see her beautiful stained glass windows. New in downtown Spring Grove, Megan Jones will be showing her beadwork. Karl Unnasch with his mixed media work joins the art tour this year at his studio in Caledonia. Venture out to St. Charles to see handmade wood bowls by Tom Blahnik. In addition to Arts Center in Lanesboro, and Magnolias in Winona, Bluff Country Artists Gallery in Spring Grove are extremely inviting stops on the tour. Northern Iowa includes Hallie and Nate Evans, wood- fired stoneware pottery, Jill and Michael Stephenson in their non-electric house with wood furniture and reed baskets and Martha and George Lowe with their unique rattan baskets and stoneware pottery. Jean Murray rejoins the tour with her beautiful new textile wall pieces.
Julia Crozier's gallery, Blue Heron Gallery & Studio, in Winona shows her pastels and paintings as well as a few other regional artists. Portrait artist Mary Singer will have her original miniature paintings as well as medium and large oils, watercolors, prints and cards set up at the NE corner of Third and Franklin. Yarrow Brown, nature watercolors and Jack Honeywell, stained glass will show their work at the Community Center in Wiscoy Valley. Monta May with contemporary and ancient design sculpture will be showing at her studio this year. New to the tour, Dan Grimslid displays his original prints at his studio in downtown Winona. Our area is truly blessed with such a wide range of professional artists. Returning artists in Winona include Bernadette Mahfood, glass tiles & jewelry and Walken Ratajczyk, functional glass. Stan Hawkins of Little Hawk Designs presents his three dimensional wildlife sculpture.
Bluff Country Studio Art Tour is your chance to visit these studios and more, meet the artists and purchase original one-of-a-kind pieces. You may wish to commission a special work of art as a gift or wonderful addition to your home or personal collection. Many artists only open their studios for this tour, where you will see them demonstrating their craft. This is a treasure filled spring adventure through the scenic hills and valleys of southeastern Minnesota and northeast Iowa.
