At the regular board meeting on January 24, Fillmore Central discussed several items in planning for the new year.

Ross Kiehne will remain the chairperson, and Craig Britton the vice-chair. Deb Ristau is still the clerk, but Shelly Topness is now the vice-clerk. Sue Sikkink remains the treasurer.

There were a few changes in the committee assignments. Kiehne said they added a Technology Committee, and he and board member Jim Love will be on that.

The board voted to keep the board salaries the same as last year.

Driver's Training fees will remain the same as well, due to the lower numbers of students.

The calendar for 2012-2013 was approved. There were some concerns about spring conferences, which have been moved to February, and may coincide with sporting events.

Superintendent Richard Keith said the state has changed their requirements from numbers of days students must be in school to numbers of hours, and Fillmore Central students are getting a lot more than required.

Spring Sports Coaches

Athletic Director Jane Montgomery was at the meeting to discuss the numbers for spring sports and the coaching positions.

In baseball, Ryan Scheevel will be the head coach, with David Broadwater assistant coach. She decided to add a junior high coach because of the number of kids signed up. In grades 9-12 there are 26, and there are 19 signed up for 7/8 grade. These numbers include the Lanesboro students, and Montgomery said they are not set in stone. Kyle Rundquist and Jon Holger will be the junior high coaches. The board approved as long as the numbers warrant a fourth coach.

Tris Tollefson will be the head softball coach. With Travis Malley coaching B-squad, and Jessie Powell and Tim Ostrom coaching junior high. There are 17 students signed up in grades 9-12, and another 17 signed up for junior high.

Brad Holten will again be coaching boys' golf, and Lane Powell will take over Bonnie Piehn's job as girls' golf coach. Aaron Mensink will take over junior high.

Montgomery said there are 10 boys and three girls signed up for track in grades 7-12.

Staffing Changes

The board approved the resignation of Kim Underbakke from the daycare and Nancy Back, high school paraprofessional. Nancy Byrne was not able to be there to accept her plaque in recognition of her retirement, but the board thanked her for her years of service to the district.

Connie Snitker was hired in the daycare. Sue Snell will be a long-term sub for Marit Janssen while she is on maternity leave. Garrett Daniels will cover for Becky Mueller while she is on maternity leave, and Misty Heusinkveld was hired for the high school library paraprofessional position.

Other Business

The February school board meeting was changed to Tuesday, February 28 at noon in Preston.

Open enrollment requests were accepted from three families.
