Looking for a fun family day? If so, Whalan is the place to be on Saturday, May 15, for their 15th Annual Standstill Parade... the one where the parade stands still and the spectators parade around it! The parade runs (sorry, I mean stands) from 11 am to 12 noon.
In addition to the popular parade, many other activities are planned. Lots of music, including the Maritza Band, Sometimes Eight (50's music), The Bandanas (country music), The Clink'n & Grin'n Cloggers, Take Note (show tunes), Walter and Steve and the Irish Minstrels will keep things lively.
A highlight this year will be a live American bald eagle and staff from the National Eagle Center presenting an entertaining and educational program during the parade. This program is funded with a SELCO - SELS grant with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008 which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota's arts and cultural heritage.
Clowns, children's games, The Little Blue Choo train rides, the petting zoo and pony rides will keep the kids busy and happy.
A pie eating contest, an 1885 hi-wheeler, Ernie's 1917 Restored Gas Station, antique cars, Stan's Still (a working moonshine still), bed races, a cow milking contest, a lefse making demonstration (see it made and eat it warm), the Whalan Museum and lots of goodies will add to the festivities.
For a unique and fun-filled day, Whalan's the place to be on Saturday, May 15, from 10 am to 5 pm.
All profits from this event go to the Whalan Lutheran Church. The members invite the public to join them for an outdoor church service in the gazebo on Sunday, May 16, at 9 am.
