The Fillmore County Extension Committee is asking your help in identifying potential farm families for recognition by the University of Minnesota. The Farm Family Recognition Program has existed for over two decades and honors farm families from throughout Minnesota for their contributions to the agriculture industry and their local communities. All of the honored farm families have made significant contributions to Minnesota agriculture and their communities. To learn about the program, check the website at http://mnfarmfamilies.cfans.umn.edu/
Please nominate an individual or family, using the criteria below. Farm Families should be Minnesota food producers actively involved in agricultural production with one or more agricultural enterprises. Beyond the usual agricultural endeavors, please also include these production areas for consideration: potato, vegetable, fruits, berries, aquaculture, agriforestry, and renewable energy supplies.
Families may have made significant short-term progress and/or innovative contributions with their agricultural endeavors. For example, consider producers who are relatively new to this country, someone who has developed an innovative method for a particular environmental problem, adopted a rotational grazing system, added alternative or value-added crops, etc.
All nominees should also have demonstrated a commitment to enhancing and supporting the fields of agriculture and production, have some involvement in their communities and/or related organizations, and not have been previously recognized by the Farm Family Program.
Honorees are generally recognized at the Fillmore County Fair and are invited to attend Farmfest for a recognition event. It is not necessary for farm families to attend this event in order to be nominated. At Farmfest honorees will be recognized by sponsoring college deans and directors.
Past farm families from Fillmore County that have already been recognized include: 1984 Richard and Ruth Vrieze; 1985 Darrel and Lois Ray; 1986 Jerry and Nancy Gartner; 1987 Allen and Donna Aarsvold; 1988 Philip and Ruth Abrahamson; 1989 Norman and Ruth Eickhoff; 1990 Elton and Joyce Redalen; 1991 Robert and Marleene Ward; 1992 Leslie and Jo Olson; 1993 Charles and Gloria Ruen; 1994 Robert and Eloda Wood; 1995 Murrell and Joyce Jacobson; 1996 Randy and Bonnie Hahn; 1997 Alvin and Karilyn Reiland; 1997 Scott and Kelly Reiland; 1997 Troy and Christine Sukalski; 1998 Larry and Margaret Miller; 1999 Donald and Ruth Boyum; 2000 Wayne and Dona Hebrink; 2001 Rollis and Bev Williams; 2002 Greg and Cheryl Dornink; 2003 Paul and Judy Frank; 2003 David and Janeen Honsey; 2004 Brian and Judy Hazel; 2005 Lynn Aggen (Oak Meadow Farm); 2006 Randy and Kari Drinkall; 2007 Goldsmith Brothers - Ross and Steven; 2008 Tillman and Shirley Fingerson; 2009 Scott and Jean Winslow (Twin Oak Acres); 2010 Lind Family Farm; 2011 Craig and Pam Mensink.
If you chose to nominate someone, please send a short bio on why this person or family should be nominated based on the criteria above. It can be mailed to: Fillmore County Extension Office, 902 Houston St. NW Ste. 3, Preston MN 55965 or e-mail tesme001@umn.edu
