DECORAH, Iowa —Vesterheim, the national Norwegian-American museum and heritage center, welcomes storyteller Jane Nichols on Free First Thursday, September 4. There will be free museum admission from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Nichols will give a presentation on Norse myths and Viking lore in the museum’s Amdal-Odland Heritage Center.

“Exploring myths and the Viking language legacy that we still use can be a fun way to connect with Nordic heritage,” Martha Griesheimer, Vesterheim’s Free First Thursday coordinator, said. Nichols, also known as “Lady Fiona,” is from Kansas City, Kansas, and has been giving variations of the presentation on Norse myth since 1992 at a variety of venues, including libraries, colleges, and the Danish Brotherhood. Nichols’s presentation covers the days of the week, since those came from the Norse gods, as well as words like “weird,” “berserk,” and “brag,” and much more.

“We are delighted to have ‘Lady Fiona’ visit Vesterheim,” Griesheimer said.
