RUSHFORD, MINN. – Lyla A. Kahoun, 90, of Rushford, Minn., died on Monday, August 11, 2014, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

Lyla was born on March 13, 1924, in Norway Township of Fillmore County, Minn. to John and Hannah (Austad) Eggebakken. She was raised on the home farm and attended country school near there. Lyla was united in marriage with John Kahoun on October 12, 1943, in Rushford. She farmed along-side her husband on her family’s farm where she lived all of her life. Lyla enjoyed raising her many chickens and driving tractor. In her younger years, Lyla did housework for neighbors and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. She loved baking and eating pie. Lyla enjoyed following her husband’s interest in politics and especially enjoyed their memorable trip to Washington D.C. More than anything else, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sister. Lyla was a member of Emanuel Episcopal Church in Rushford where she was active in the women’s group.

She is survived by her three children: Joan Kinneberg of Rushford, John (Mary) Kahoun of Rushford, and Louane (Jeff) Davidson of Choice, Minn.; nine grandchildren: JoDee (Brent), Jared (Jen), Jed (Melisa), John (Jenny), Amy (Jon), Matthew , Kendra (Trever), Marcus, and Mitchell (Jessi); sister, Helen Kopperud; brother-in-law, Delbert (Christine) Kahoun; sister-in-law, Loretta Kahoun; and by many nieces and nephews.

Lyla was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Jerome; and two grandchildren, Dean and Kimberly.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, at Rushford Lutheran Church in Rushford with the Rev. Brenda Ziebell officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Serivce in Rushford and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Rushford Oak Grove City Cemetery.

The family prefers memorials to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home or to Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
