Rachael Hanel, author of the book “We’ll Be the Last Ones to Let You Down: Memoir of a Gravedigger’s Daughter” will be a special guest on this month’s “Lanesboro Live” show.

Lanesboro, Minn. – Damon Prestemon’s upcoming “Lanesboro Live” show will feature a visit with Rachael Hanel, author of the new book “We’ll Be the Last Ones to Let You Down: Memoir of a Gravedigger’s Daughter”, and the band FAIR TRADE. The show is on Saturday, July 5, 2014, 7:30 p.m. at the St. Mane Theatre. Prestemon’s house band, the Slick Newhouse Band, is always on stage, with excellent high-energy music featuring top-notch musicians Jordan Glynn on guitar, Eric Amundrud on drums, Geoff Forscher on bass, Nathan Davidson on sax, and Jerry Barrett on trumpet.

“Lanesboro Live” features show host & creator Damon Prestemon’s comedy and spontaneity and music and dancing and on-the-spot interviews with a wide range of guests. The July show features a visit with Rachael Hanel, who has an interesting view of death, being the daughter of a gravedigger. Hanel is the author of more than 20 nonfiction books for children and a teacher of Mass Media at Minnesota State University in Mankato. This memoir, “We’ll Be the Last Ones to Let You Down: Memoir of a Gravedigger’s Daughter”, her first book for adults, was drafted in 2005 when she was awarded an Artist Residency here at Lanesboro Arts Center. Joining Damon and Rachael and the Slick Newhouse Band onstage will be another band, FAIR TRADE, as a special treat for the July show. FAIR TRADE’s Charron McLeod provides smooth vocals and percussion for the band’s unique sound of jazz-blues-folk. She is joined by Tim Dallman on guitars and vocals, Scott Ollhoff on drums and percussion, and Michael Carlucci on bass and vocals.

Each month throughout the season (April-Oct & Dec), host Damon Prestemon will manage spontaneous comedy, jump in with the house band on vocals and/or on keyboard, and welcome guests ranging from authors and musicians to ‘Aunt Evelyn’ to reptile experts to political science professors. Presented by Lanesboro Arts Center, the self-rated ‘PG-13’ show will run monthly on the first Saturdays, April-October, with an additional special holiday show in December. Upcoming show dates: July 5, August 2, September 6, October 4 and December 6. Show tickets are $15/$12 LAC members, available in advance at Lanesboro Arts Center, 507-467-2446, and at the St. Mane Theatre beginning at 6:30 p.m. on show nights. The St. Mane Theatre is located at 206 Parkway Ave N. in Lanesboro, Minn. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. For more than 30 years, the Lanesboro Arts Center has been working to fulfill its mission of serving as a regional catalyst for artistic excellence and educational development in providing diverse art experiences for people of all ages.
