WMC Auxiliary gives $31K back to the medical center.

Over the past year, the Winneshiek Medical Center Auxiliary has purchased medical equipment for WMC to a tune of $31,000.

The most recent purchase was an adjustable x-ray table to benefit WMC patients in the Radiology department.

“The adjustable x-ray table is used during pain management procedures to allow the imaging unit to take pictures while a patient is lying in a comfortable position,” says Sue Meyer, supervisor of the Radiology department. The table can move up and down, side to side, and front to back to accommodate the individualized needs of each patient. Additionally, x-rays are able to penetrate the table, allowing images to be taken from underneath. Sue says, “Getting an x-ray taken when in acute pain can be uncomfortable. Thanks to the Auxiliary’s gift, if a patient finds a comfortable position, he or she can remain there, and we can take the image or perform the procedure while the patient is in a safe and stationary position.”

In addition to the adjustable x-ray table, the WMC Auxiliary has purchased a NuStep for the Calmar Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Clinic; a hydraulic stretcher for the Med-Surg department; four vital signs monitors for the Emergency, Same Day Services and Med-Surg departments; and two pulse oximeters and thermometers each for the Clinic. Needed items are submitted to the Auxiliary by WMC departments; department requests are reviewed and selected on an annual basis.

“The Auxiliary is beyond pleased to be able to support the needs of WMC and enhance patient care or the patient experience in some way,” says Bev Christen, president of the WMC Auxiliary. “We appreciate all the staff and community support of our fund-raisers, and are glad our efforts make a difference for local health care.”

Fundraisers that support purchases for WMC include Light for Life in December, the IA/IA State Tailgate Party each fall, the Fall Luncheon, book sales throughout the year, the Auxiliary Schwan’s Sale, the Card Marathon, the Auxiliary Bowling League and profits from the Auxiliary-run Gift Shop.
