Stella Brusse, age 97, of Spring Valley, Minn. passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Ostrander Care and Rehab in Ostrander, Minn.

Stella was born near Cherry Grove, Minn. to Ben and Mollie (Mathison) Nagel on September 10, 1916. She married Calvin Brusse on November 10, 1937 in Cherry Grove. Stella grew up and lived in the Cherry Grove area all of her life. She was a devoted life long member of the Cherry Grove Church, where she was a pianist and organist for many years. Calvin and Stella spent most of their married life farming and watching their children grow up on the farm. She enjoyed gardening, making rugs on her loom, and making quilts.

Stella is survived by her children, Julian (Karen) Brusse of Rochester, Minn., Luann (David) Garrison of Spring Valley, and Terry Brusse of Cherry Grove; 7 grandchildren, Lesa Brusse, Brenda (Ken) Clark, Rodney (Pam) Brusse, Kelly (Rick) Gillitzer, Todd (Michelle) Garrison, Eric Garrison, and Garren Brusse; 10 great grandchildren; a niece that they raised, Janice Berning Tabor of Austin, Minn.; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Calvin Brusse, son, Lowell Brusse, grandson, Randy Brusse, daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Brusse, brother, Orrin Nagel, sister, Leona (Nagel) Berning, and 3 half brothers, Jacob, Oscar, and Mike Monson.

Funeral services for Stella Brusse will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Cherry Grove United Methodist Church in Cherry Grove, with Pastor Beth Perez officiating. Burial will take place in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley and one hour prior to the service at church.
