Every day in every county across the state of Minnesota lives are saved through the incredible work of EMS (Emergency Medical Services) providers. One particular EMT, Deb Ristau, will be honored as the 2010 EMS Hero for her courageous work in delivering a baby on a southern Minnesota roadside.

As this year's EMS Hero, Ristau, gives a face to the countless men and women who give their time and resources in this crucial field. A volunteer EMT for Preston Ambulance Service, Ristau found herself in an emergency situation that allowed her to do exactly what she signed up for: help those in need. On March 11, 2010 Ristau used her instinct and training to deliver a healthy baby boy to Nicole and Scot Engler of Rochester whose car was pulled over at an intersection in southern Minnesota with no time to reach the hospital.

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 22nd Ristau will be formally recognized as the 2010 EMS Hero during EMS Appreciation Day with the Minnesota Twins. Ristau's story emphasizes the continuous need for EMS providers and the skill sets they bring to the public service realm. Part of National EMS Appreciation Week, 2010 marks the 6th year of honoring EMS providers with a day of appreciation and family fun with the Minnesota Twins.
