Marvin Vernon Jonsgaard

Marvin Vernon Jonsgaard, 83, of Peterson, Minn., died Tuesday, April 8, 2014.

Marvin was born August 30, 1930 to Harry and Agnes (Bailey) Jonsgaard in rural Winona County. He served in army during the Korean War from 1951-1953 and upon his return he married Yvonne Johnson on February 27, 1954. He worked as a dairy farmer early on and from 1974 up to his retirement he was employed with Lake Center Industries in Rushford. Together they raised six children, Larry, David, Pam, Wendy, Jerry, and Vernon.

Marvin enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. As a child, he and his brothers would race around in go-carts and go trout fishing in streams and creeks around the area. As a young man, he enjoyed stock car racing and especially loved to go snowmobiling. Marvin also took pleasure in all things outdoors. Deer hunting was one of his favorite activities. He also was also a lover of animals including his many dogs throughout the years.

Later in life, Marvin enjoyed attending auctions around the area. He was a collector and as a “John Deere” kind of guy, finding a John Deere tractor to add to his collection was a good day.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Yvonne; children, Larry (Tina) Jonsgaard, David (Terry) Jonsgaard, Pam (Barry) Erickson, Wendy (Denny Brand Sr.) Jonsgaard, Jerry (Kelly) Jonsgaard, and Vernon Jonsgaard; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one expected great-grandson; brothers, Harold, Arvid, Wilbert, and Eldon; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rosemary; great-granddaughter, Gracie; brothers, Harris, Allen, and Curt; and sisters, Donna Mae and Loretta.

Services for Marvin were on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford. Visitation was on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.
