Southern Minnesota Organic Crops Day to be held March 19

The ninth annual Southern Minnesota Organic Crops Day will be held Wednesday, March 19, at the Steele County Community Center. This year’s program aims to provide current and future organic crop producers with additional tools and knowledge to help their operation succeed. Registration starts at 2:30 p.m. with the program beginning at 3 p.m. There is a cost of $15 at the door which includes registration, materials, and supper.

Topics and speakers for the day include:

• Rhizobial Inoculants for Organic Soybean and Dry Bean Production – Kristine Moncada, University of Minnesota

• University of Minnesota’s New Organic Transition Project – Jill Sackett, University of

Minnesota Extension

• Drift Watch: a Program to Protect your Farm Against Pesticide Drift

• Cover Crop Panel: Q and A with Experienced Cover Croppers

• Precision Agriculture on the Organic Farm – Ryan Miller, University of Minnesota Extension and Carmen Fernholz, Lac qui Parle County Farmer

• Ag Drainage 101 – Brad Carlson, University of Minnesota Extension
