ArtHaus presents its next Poetry Slam on Friday, March 7 at 8pm. This energetic spoken-word event is held at Decorah’s Elks Lodge (402 W. Main St.), and is sponsored by Dragonfly Books.

The Featured Artist will be David Faldet, a past winner of the ArtHaus Poetry Slam David Faldet's poetry has been published in journals such as Mid-American Review, Saw Palm, Arion, and Ruminate. He studied poetry at Luther College with Gracia Grindal, and at the University of Washington with David Wagoner, and now teaches English at Luther College. Faldet has deep roots in Northeastern Iowa, which he explored in his 2009 book Oneota Flow. His poems are also rooted in his life in and around Decorah.

Following the Featured Artist, “Original Voices” provides an opportunity for anyone to share up to three minutes of their own poetry in an open mic setting. "The Slam" invites participants to perform an original poem in a high-spirited, good-natured competition, complete with applause-o-meter and prizes. Memorization is encouraged in this category, where performance and commitment are valued as highly as the quality of the poem.

Those wishing to perform in "Original Voices" or to compete in "The Slam" should call ArtHaus in advance to reserve a spot. To sign up, or for more information, call ArtHaus at 563-382-5440. Doors open at 7:30, and the show begins at 8:00. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students. The event is recommended for adults, age 16 and up.
