Winter Grazing Extravaganza

I’m pleased to announce the lineup for the Winter Grazing Extravaganza to be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 in Room 108, Fillmore County Office Building, Preston Minn. with registration at 9:45 a.m.

The morning program will feature Dr. Tim Goldsmith, U of M Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Goldsmith’s topic will cover both the “Economics of AI vs. Bull Ownership; and Cost Effectiveness of Heifers vs. Purchasing Replacements”. We will finish the morning session with Fillmore/Houston County Extension Educator Jerry Tesmer’s topic, “Grazing Rental Considerations”.

Following lunch, Dr. Craig Sheaffer, U of M Department of Agronomy, will provide us with the latest alfalfa information on. “Variety Response to K Fertilization”, Variety selection; and frost seeding.”

Scott Wells, New U of M Forage Extension Agronomist, has documented the unusual conditions of 2012 and 2013 that led to the question “Winterkill, What happened last winter?”

We will finish the day with Dean Thomas, Fillmore SWCD Grazing Specialist response to the question, “To Hay or Graze?” We expect to adjourn by 3 p.m.

Remember, Winter Grazing Extravaganza, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.; Room 108, Fillmore County Office Building, Preston MN on Saturday, March 8th. Lunch will be $10, with either pizza or a sandwich.
