"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding," Proverbs 3:5.
Graduation marks a milestone in a person's education. It may mark the end of a structured environment of learning and the beginning of "making a living." Messages given at commencement ceremonies vary based on the speaker. Some focus on the excellent education that the graduates received. This education will enable the graduates to find jobs, address the world's problems and ultimately be successful in life. Others focus on trusting the "American spirit" including the rule of law, the military might, the resilence of the economy or some other aspect of life in America.
After the graduation celebration, the reality of ecological, economic and moral problems can seem overwhelming. Can the best grades in school or even the "American spirit" solve all the issues? God is wiser than any of us and bigger than the problems our world faces. The advice given in Proverbs, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding," are wise words that should never be forgotten. To the person facing unemployment, military deployment, disappointments in relationships, financial loss and compromised health, God provides hope and the ability to face the challenges.
Graduates, use the knowledge and skills God gave you! Strive for excellence! Work with others! Trust in the Lord! Face the world's challenges with confidence! See you in church!
