Coming soon will be the Progressive Ecumenical Dinner on Thursday, June 10, 2010, starting at the Methodist Church at 6:00 p.m., Christ Lutheran about 6:45 p.m., and St. Columban about 7:30 p.m. The speaker will be Barbara Hight-Randall presenting an interesting topic, "Gemstones of the Bible." This is a program that brings to life the Old Testament description of the Breastplate of Aaron that has gemstones representing the twelve tribes of Israel. Much research has gone into the understanding of the gems comprising the original breast plate, but there is no consensus. It is from this representation, however, that we have our tradition of birthstones. Originally, gems were only worn by high priests, nobles and the very wealthy. Today, we have a rainbow of birthstones. Everyone will be able to take part sharing their birthstones or favorite item of jewelry...like the "Antique Roadshow." Examples of the birthstones will be on display. Everyone is invited. Come and bring your friends to share a fun evening.
A free will offering will be taken which will go toward the Preston Swimming Pool Park playground equipment.
