George W. Judy, age 94, formerly of Whalan, Minn., died Monday, December 16, 2013, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

George was born March 17, 1919 in Springfield, SD. In October of 1941 George served for the US army until December of 1945. During World War II George was stationed on the Aleutian Island and the Philippine Islands. After returning to the US he was united in marriage to Etta Mae Good. Together they farmed in rural Whalan and raised one daughter, Karla.

As a World War II veteran, George was very proud to serve as a commander for the American Legion for many years. He always felt honored to perform military honors for countless veterans. One of George’s favorite pastimes was watching the Minnesota Twins. In his later years during the baseball season he would watch almost everyday. He also enjoyed going to watch the Whalan fast pitch softball team. As a caring father and grandfather he will be sadly missed.

George is survived by his daughter, Karla (Ellsworth) Holland of Rushford, Minn.; grandchildren, Terry (Mona) Holland of League City, TX and Lisa (Bobby) Mort of Chambersburg, PA; great-grandchildren, Jake, Ashley, Emily, and Aaron; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Etta Mae; infant son, Galen Francis; and all of his brothers and sisters.

Services for George will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at Rushford Lutheran Church. Visitation will take place at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013. Burial will be held at a later date at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
