In response to Mrs. Carole Yenter

To the Editor,

She blamed Democrats for barricading entrance to the War Memorials during the Government “shut down.” The “shut down” was caused by extreme Republicans in Congress. When Republicans shut down the government they cut funds that paid for the guards that protected the Memorials. The Republicans were responsible for the barricades!

In response to Mrs. Neyhuis' response, you put an interesting "spin" on the shutdown, so I will offer another one. The shutdown was an impasse caused by both parties unwilling to compromise. What got closed was the decision of the President. If he had a sacred cow it was deemed "essential" and spared from the shutdown, like his wife's "Just move" website. Govt funds were spent to close these memorials, where did that money come from? It probably cost more to close them and post guards than it would have to let them be! One thing that has President Obama's name all over it was the military death benefits expiring during the shutdown, and actually being stupid enough to say that since a private source of funding was secured the govt could stop paying it! That is unforgivable and inexcusable and totally the Presidents doing. Things were closed in this shutdown that had never been closed before, and the Republicans had NOTHING to do with that. In the Presidents desparation to show how much we need govt he ended up looking like the proverbial spoiled child that hold his breath until he gets his way!
