The Fillmore County Early Childhood Initiative (ECI) would like to invite you to attend the Fillmore County ECI Family Walk on June 13th at Bass Pond Parking Lot in Lanesboro. The walk is open to all families. Each family participating must have a minimum of $20 in pledges. Pledge forms can be picked up at most community banks and libraries throughout Fillmore County.
The Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation has funded projects in our region to support efforts in the area of early childhood. Fillmore County early childhood leaders met and submitted a grant application and were awarded a $15,000 grant in the fall of 2008. Since then, community members have collected data about the state of early childhood in Fillmore County and went through a strategic planning process where they developed a mission and priority areas for the Fillmore County ECI. The mission for the Fillmore County ECI is: "Fillmore County's Early Childhood Initiative will support families while building a connected community of H.O.P.E (Health. Optimism. Possibilities. Education)." The monies raised will help us meet matching funds needed to continue our efforts.
The walk begins at 4:00 P.M and ends at 7:00 P.M. It is an open house event. Families may walk out on the Root River Trail and listen to stories along the way at different "Story Stops," each with a different theme. The total walk is about two miles, but families may turn around when they are ready. A sack supper will be provided for each participant along with free souvenirs. The walk promises to be a fun-filled family night and we hope to see you there!
