Biggest Fan of Horror

The talk show deejay claiming to be the biggest fan of horror insisted that watching the online trailer for a horror movie would result in sleepless nights if not permanent emotional issues. He was wrong.



The biggest fan of horror does not watch movies or play video games. He is not warped by viewing violence nor does it lead him to reenact scenes with real life violence. He laughs at atrocities like drive by shootings, cannibalism, and torture. The killing fields of Cambodia, the genocide of Rwanda and Darfur, the gulags of Stalin, the Bataan death march, the Holocaust gas chambers are only a small part of the horror he enjoys and fosters. He rejoices in the despair of a woman who realizes her aborted child is the only one she will ever bear. He glories in chaos which leads people to believe God does not hear their cries. Jesus described him as “a murderer from the beginning (John 8:44).” The biggest fan of horror is Satan.



The following prescription helps us cope, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things (Philippians 4:6-8 NIV).”



God is the author of all that is good in this world and the source of genuine hope. Jesus Christ came to crush the power of Satan in our lives and promises us that by his sacrifice all of our sins are forgiven by God completely and forever. Jesus predicted the future in a horror filled world, “Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown (Revelation 2:10 NIV).”
