Visit Vesterheim for “Hedgie’s Halloween”

DECORAH, Iowa—Stop by Vesterheim, the national Norwegian-American museum and heritage center, for spooktacular fun at “Hedgie’s Halloween” before or during Trick or Treating on October 31. The museum will be open late from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

“Hedgie’s Halloween” is in connection with the exhibition, “The World of Jan Brett,” on view now through January 5, 2014. This fun and engaging traveling exhibition brings to life the stories of the beloved children’s author/illustrator. Original artwork, interactive adventure areas, and themed reading environments invite visitors to travel the globe and become a part of their favorite books. The exhibition welcomes all ages into the vivid cultures and endless imagination of these timeless children’s tales.



“The World of Jan Brett” encourages playful exploration in hands-on discovery areas and immersive environments. The exhibition features more than 50 original paintings from ten of Jan Brett’s bestselling books. Sketchbooks, hands-on discovery zones, and themed reading environments take visitors on a journey around the world to learn about the places and cultures that Jan Brett gets her inspiration from. There is even a super-size Hedgie, a hedgehog that is featured in the pages of many of Jan Brett’s best-loved stories!



“The World of Jan Brett” is on a nationwide tour and its display at Vesterheim is made possible through funds raised by the 2012 Deck The Tables committee and event. This traveling exhibition is organized by the Oshkosh Public Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in partnership with Jan Brett.



Jan Brett has more than 35 million books in print and has been one of America’s most beloved children’s author/ illustrators for over 30 years. Her books regularly occupy the #1 slot on the New York Times best-seller list. Her illustrations are adored for their classic beauty and vibrant life-like images of animals, landscapes, and flourishes from cultures around the world.
