Letter about Syria

To the Editor,

The controversy surrounding a recent chemical weapons attack in Syria smacks of desperation. Since June Assad’s forces have had the upper hand, limiting rebel successes. So who would be more desperate here? A May 6, 2013 Washington Times article reports a UN official finding evidence of rebels using chemical weapons. Similar reports are increasing. This issue is murky at best. So why manufacture a crisis with a slanted argument? To recklessly spin this roulette wheel with an ineffectual missile strike is volatile, potentially endangering Americans with jihadist reprisals. This is presidential wisdom?

Notably absent in the President’s rhetoric are the murders of Syrian Christians and the burning of their churches by these same rebels. Is this an acceptable atrocity? Where’s the shot over their bow? Boasting high sounding platitudes become devoid of meaning when lines of moral demarcation are too blurred for common sense. Is President Obama more concerned with his prestige to the point of denigrating America’s? The feckless Republican leadership has also forfeited their credibility in becoming no more than the administration’s sock puppet.

America has no dog in this fight and no imperative for our national defense. The Obama administration’s incoherent Mideast policies have been instrumental in causing this threat of total chaos and instability.

Following Vice President Biden’s formula, I have three words for the President and Congress: stay out of Syria.
