Vesterheim Museum Welcomes Jan Brett to Decorah, Iowa

DECORAH, Iowa —At the invitation of Vesterheim, the national Norwegian-American museum and heritage center, beloved children's author Jan Brett will visit Decorah on Sunday, November 10, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The visit is one of a series of events surrounding the exhibition "The World of Jan Brett," on view at Vesterheim beginning October 14. Brett is touring to promote her newest book "Cinders: A Chicken Cinderella."

Brett will give a short presentation in the Decorah High School auditorium beginning at 10:00 a.m. and then sign books for the remainder of the time. Admission to both the presentation and signing is free, but by ticket only. Seating for the presentation is not reserved. Auditorium doors will open at 9:30. A selection of Jan Brett's beautifully illustrated books and keepsakes, including her new book "Cinders," will be on sale in the lobby both before and after Brett's presentation. Tickets will be made available first to Vesterheim members from September 16 through September 30. Then, from October 1 through October 25, tickets will be available to everyone. Limit four tickets per family—please order only as many as you will actually use. Visit Vesterheim's website to print off an order form for tickets, or stop by the museum and request one. Fill out the form and mail it, along with a stamped, self-addressed business envelope, and your tickets will be mailed back to you. To allow for enough processing and mailing time before the event, no orders will be taken after October 25.

"The World of Jan Brett," on view at Vesterheim from October 14, 2013 through January 5, 2014, is fun and engaging traveling exhibition brings to life the stories of the beloved children’s author/illustrator. Original artwork, interactive adventure areas, and themed reading environments invite visitors to travel the globe and become a part of their favorite books. The exhibition welcomes visitors of all ages into the vivid cultures and endless imagination of these timeless children’s tales.

"The World of Jan Brett" is on nationwide tour and its presentation at Vesterheim is made possible through funds raised by the 2012 Deck The Tables committee and event. The exhibition was organized by the Oshkosh Public Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in partnership with Jan Brett.
