‘Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash’ at Luther College

DECORAH, Iowa—Luther College invites you to a musical tribute to one of the world's most legendary musical artists, Johnny Cash. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

The “Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash” performance in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall, is the Season Opener of Luther College's 2013-14 Center Stage Series of professional performing arts events. The performance is sponsored by the Gundersen Health System.

Produced by Curt Wollan, Luther class of 1973, the performance celebrates the life and music of Johnny Cash. The musical revue includes more than 35 of his hit songs including some of his well-known duets with June Carter Cash.

This exuberant musical tribute includes such classics as “I Walk the Line,” “Folsum Prison Blues” and “A Boy Named Sue.” Rather than a straight-up Cash impersonation, a company of performers will guide audiences through Cash’s repertoire-from gospel to folk, from rock to blues to country-setting the stage ablaze.

The creators of the production felt that although they did not want to dramatize Johnny Cash’s life, it was important, by the end of the show that the audience felt that they have spent the evening in the presence of an extraordinary and real man. Cash wrote and sang about the lives we lead, regardless of where we lead them.
