Star Party August 17

Posted in All The Great Outdoors

A good look at the night sky above you can be a humbling yet exciting experience when you realize just how much more is out there beyond our own little planet. Join the good folks of the La Crosse Area Astronomical Society with their BIG telescopes to go on a tour of the myriad objects in the sky above us after dark.

The moon will be dominating the sky, so you’ll be able to see many of the moon’s features. The moonlight will make faint objects difficult to see but you’ll still see open and globular star clusters, colorful double stars, and the brightest nebula and galaxies. You’ll also get to check out some free software to help you further enjoy the night sky.

This program is free and open to the public, but donations are encouraged. The Houston Nature Center is located one block north of the intersection of Highways 16 and 76 in Houston on West Plum Street in Trailhead Park. For more information contact the Center at 507-896-4668 or nature@acegroup.cc.
