Falconry Program August 10

Fri, Aug 2nd, 2013
Posted in All The Great Outdoors

Falconry...the taking of wild quarry with a trained raptor. That is the definition of the Sport of Kings, but you don’t have to be a king to practice it.

Have you ever been curious about falconry? Do you enjoy watching raptors such as hawks, falcons and eagles? Do you like getting out into wild places? If you’ve said “yes” to any of these questions, you’ll enjoy meeting master falconer Carolyn Standlee-Hanson. She will explain the sport of falconry in America, demonstrate the equipment used to manage the birds, and you’ll get to meet a live Red-tailed Hawk and a Harris Hawk.

Since the birds are finishing their molts and hunting season hasn’t begun, the birds will not hunt during the program. Interested individuals may be able to go hunting with Carolyn at a later date.

This program is open to the public and donations are appreciated. The Houston Nature Center is located one block north of the intersection of Highways 16 and 76 in Trailhead Park in Houston, Minn. For more information contact the Center at 507-896-4668 or nature@acegroup.cc.
