Garage Variances Approved

The Fillmore County Board of Adjustment met on July 11 to consider the requests for two garage variances.

Deborah Catron, Newburg Township Section 33, was represented by Steven Guberud. She had requested a variance to build an attached garage to the southwest corner of an existing home near Mabel, Minn. There were multiple reasons for the 24 foot by 28 foot garage to be built in a location which would result in a 65.5 foot setback from the center of 104 Street, which included maintaining accessibility by an existing driveway and keeping the existing roof line as it is.

Zoning administrator Chris Graves noted that there had been no comment from the public or township officers. He said it was an after the fact variance as the footings had already been set. The setback required from the road is 73 feet. The 7.5 foot variance was unanimously approved.

Pat Troendle, Carrolton Township Section 25, requested a variance for a 22 foot by 32 foot garage to replace an existing smaller structure. The existing structure is 58 feet from the center of the road. The request was for the new garage to be allowed to be built 55 feet from the center of Grosbeak Road. Troendle noted that it was the only desirable location because of the location of the septic system.

There was no comment from the public or township officers. The variance of 18 feet was unanimously approved.
