LANESBORO, Minn. – Next up in the Third Friday Film Series is ‘SWITCH’, a documentary film about energy resources, in keeping with the series’ theme of “Energy” in 2013. The July Third Friday Film will be held at Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center in rural Lanesboro (EBELC). Events on Friday, July 19 start at 6:30 pm with an energy/conservation tour led by EBELC director Joe Deden. Following the tour, the film ‘SWITCH’ will be shown at 7:30 pm in the Discovery Center building at EBELC. Joe will facilitate a discussion about energy conservation following the screening, bringing global issues to a regional level. All events are free and open to the public.

Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center is located at 28097 Goodview Dr., Lanesboro, Minnesota. The 6:30 pm energy/conservation tour will begin in the parking lot near the Schroeder Building Visitor Center; the tour will feature the home of director Joe Deden and his wife Mary Bell, a model of energy conservation. The tour will showcase energy efficiencies built into the house, the photovoltaic system on the roof, and a little about solar thermal and the energy storage sink in the basement. On the way to the Discovery building will be a stop at Eagle Bluff’s newest use of technology, an Australian “wicking bed garden” which is a water conservation project. www.eagle-bluff.org / 507-467-2437 for more information.

About the ‘SWITCH’ film: Every energy resource — fossil, nuclear and renewable — is undergoing profound changes, and overall, we’re gradually shifting from coal and oil to the energies of tomorrow. This sweeping transition is the subject of ‘SWITCH’. But rather than advocate for how it should happen, ‘SWITCH’ travels the world to discover how it most likely will happen. ‘SWITCH’ is also about a changing energy conversation. Today, it’s polarized and unproductive. ‘SWITCH’ focuses on practical realities and encourages a balanced understanding. Finally, ‘SWITCH’ is about changing the way we use energy, to realize the many economic and environmental benefits of efficiency. The documentary, by director Harry Lynch, was filmed over a period of two years, and features 11 countries, 26 world-leading energy sites for all energy types, and 53 expert interviews.
