Area seniors who are having difficulty meeting their monthly expenses may be eligible for assistance paying for their Medicare premiums, and in some cases, their co-pays as well. Medicare beneficiaries with household incomes of less than $1,313 per month and assets of less than $10,000 may qualify for a Medicare Savings Program. For a household of two, the income guidelines are $1,722 per month and $18,000 in assets. The home you live in and one car do not count as assets.

The Medicare Savings Program would pay the $104.90 that beneficiaries currently pay for their Medicare Part B premium. Seniors with less than $958 in income and $10,000 in assets may qualify for a program that not only pays for the premium but pays for co-insurance as well. Beneficiaries who qualify for the Medicare Savings Program also qualify for extra help with prescription drug costs.

For questions about the Medicare Savings Programs, or to obtain an application, please call the Senior LinkAge LineĀ® at (800) 333-2433.
