LANESBORO, Minn. — The Commonweal Theatre Company continues to celebrate 25 Seasons of producing live, professional theatre in Lanesboro with several special events throughout the year.

Join Commonweal Company Members two times during the summer for “Beer, Brats, and Blue Jeans” in Lanesboro’s Sylvan Park. The outdoor fun begins at 4 pm following matinee performances of Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure on the Sundays of July 7 and August 11. Suggested donation is $5 and RSVP is required; contact Stef Dickens by phone (507) 467-2905 ext. 214 or email stef@commonwealtheatre.org.

On Friday, July 12, longtime Commonweal Resident Ensemble Member David Hennessey will read a selection of poems from his own book of poetry, Suit the Word to the Action: A Commonweal History in Rhyme 2001-2012. Hennessey has been writing poems to celebrate Commonweal opening nights for a decade and has recently compiled all of those writings into one volume. The reading will take place at a special party for Million Dollar Club members of the Commonweal and will also include the kick-off of the sale of the book to the general public. Contact Commonweal Box Office to purchase your copy!

Nancy Huisenga, owner of Lanesboro’s Habberstad House B&B and cast member of Commonweal’s Blithe Spirit, will read from her book Behind the Door Marked Private: Confessions of a B&B Owner. The reading will take place in the Commonweal Theatre Events Hall at 4pm following the August 17 matinee performance of Blithe Spirit.

Lori Biwer Stewart will hold an Artist Talk at the Commonweal on October 12 at 6:30pm.

Biwer Stewart is one of two artists commissioned by the Commonweal to create production inspired artwork to hang in the lobby of the theatre throughout the 2013 Season. Ms. Biwer Stewart will discuss the process behind her particular form of art, Linocut, as well as each inspiration for her creations now hanging in the Commonweal lobby.

Rounding out the season long celebration at the Commonweal is a series of Staged Readings of new works, classic favorites, and potential future productions at the Commonweal, featuring favorite Resident Ensemble members. The readings are free of charge on Wednesday evenings July 10, July 24, August 7, October 2, and October 16. For more information on this and all other upcoming special events, please phone the Commonweal Box Office at (800) 657-7025.
