Beginning Monday, July 1, Winneshiek Medical Center’s Mabel Clinic will have expanded hours. Mabel Clinic will be open daily from 7:30 am – 2 pm and offer same day appointments as well as convenient Walk-in Wellness lab testing. Medical direction for Winneshiek Medical Center is provided by Mayo Clinic Health System.

Mabel’s own Kirsten Wyffels, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), is joining Kathy Petersburg, ARNP, to provide family medicine care for people in the Hesper-Mabel area, Spring Grove, Minn. and southern Fillmore County. The Mabel Clinic will provide family medicine services such as well child exams, athletic physicals, well-woman exams, care for chronic illness, immunizations, wellness labs, strep tests and offer same day appointments for illness.

“I look forward to providing health care to the people of my own community,” says Dr. Wyffels, DNP. “Whether someone runs a daycare and has a sick child, or maybe transportation is difficult, Kathy and I can take care of them close by in downtown Mabel.” She adds, “If people are sick, we will get them seen.”

Kirsten received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire and her Master of Science in Nursing with Specialization in Advanced Family Practice from Winona State University. She then went on to earn her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Winona State University in 2009. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANP) as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Most recently, Kirsten has practiced within the Gundersen Lutheran system, providing care in southeast Minnesota long term care facilities. She also has experience in the Mayo Clinic Health System - Albert Lea Express Clinic, as Housing Manager/RN for an assisted living facility in Harmony, and as adjunct faculty at Winona State University.

Kirsten has been a City of Mabel councilperson since 2004 and president of Mabel’s Economic Development Authority since 2008. She is a Sunday school instructor and a church pianist at Canton-Presbyterian Church, and is a Mabel Food Shelf volunteer.

“I feel privileged to be able to provide this service to my community and help re-establish a full-time clinic in Mabel,” she says.
