On July 23r, 2013 the Fillmore Soil and Water Conservation District, in cooperation with the Zumbro Valley Audubon Society, will be hosting a field day to explore natural features and forestry practices along the Lost Creek Hiking Trail. The field day is open to everyone and begins in Chatfield’s Groen Park at 6pm. The roughly two hour walk on and near the trail will begin shortly thereafter. Those attending the field day will observe each feature directly, and benefit from the expert knowledge of foresters and local landowners; presenters include Bill and Steve Bailey (local landowners), Tim Gossman (Landowner), Mitch Gilbert (Private Forester), Jim Edgar (DNR Forester), and Jacob Ryg (Rochester City Forester).

This is a unique opportunity for anyone interested in managing their own forests to observe successful management firsthand. Participants can choose between two themes:

1. Upland woodland management practices and habitat.

2. Creek bottom hardwood management and reed canary grass control.

Anyone who wishes to enjoy a fun and educational walk through beautiful and well preserved forest is encouraged to come!
