Lanesboro welcomes Laura MacKenzie back to town for a concert on Saturday, June 19, 7:30 p.m. at the historic St. Mane Theatre in Lanesboro, Minn. MacKenzie, along with Gary Rue, will perform the music of Ireland, Scotland, England, France and Northern Spain on a dazzling array of wind instruments and voice.
With ardent mastery, Laura MacKenzie commands a vast repertoire of wonderfully arresting traditional music. She performs a great wealth of tunes and songs from Ireland, Scotland, England, France and Northern Spain on a splendid array of wind-powered instruments-including flutes, whistles, concertina, many bagpipes and voice. With astonishing versatility, her performance is supported by the grace, warmth and humor, the craft, knowledge and lore gleaned over a lifetime of music-making. With his full-throated, melodic guitar style and vocal contributions, Gary Rue perfectly compliments MacKenzie's musical prowess. He brings a rich and bountiful background of artistry and composition to traditional "Celtic" music, ensuring an extraordinary duo performance.
Laura MacKenzie and Gary Rue are celebrated by audiences throughout the Midwest. When they join forces-when pop sensibilities and traditional artistry come together-something wonderful happens: a driving, intensely melodic profusion of sound . . . a hybrid of flutes a-flailing, percussive, guitar, voices that soar, and hold-on-to-your-hats piping that delivers a rich tapestry of marvelous music.
Tickets for the Laura MacKenzie concert are $10/ $8 arts center members and Mayo Clinic employees. Tickets are available in advance at the Arts Center galleries at 103 Parkway Ave N in Lanesboro (open Mon-Thurs 10-5, Fri-Sat 10-7, and Sun 11-3), and at the door one hour prior to the performance at the St. Mane Theatre, 206 Parkway Ave N in Lanesboro. Presented by the Lanesboro Arts Center, whose mission is to serve as a regional catalyst for artistic excellence and educational development in providing diverse art experiences for people of all ages.
