Donavan M. Hoff, age 68, of Hastings, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2013, after a long, dignified struggle with Multiple System Atrophy. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend. Born on April 4, 1945, in Lanesboro, Minn., to Vernice (Nelson) and Myles Hoff.

He was a talented woodworker, sportsman, and a 35-year employee of the MnDOT Bridge Department.

Survived by the love of his life, wife of 48 years, Laura (Ristine); his beloved daughters, Heather (Anthony) Arvidson, Sara (Mark) Vieth, Alissa Hoff (Nathan Fluegge); the joys of his life, grandchildren Lily and Jack Arvidson, Cody, Maggie and Wyatt Vieth, and Mason Hoff-Fluegge; siblings Loretta (Leonard) Halverson, Larry (Nancy) Hoff, Veronica (Richard) Sticha, Roger (Nancy) Hoff; sisters-in-law Rose (Gary) Kamrath, Caroline (Jeff) Obst; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Roger Ristine; and sisters-in-law Lila Ristine and Diane Workman.

Donavan was a fighter to the end, a loving man of great strength and courage who was admired by many. Always giving of himself, he inspired many who knew him.

A memorial service was held Friday, June 7, at Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Hastings.
