ROCHESTER, MN, MAY 21, 2013 — The American Red Cross relies on an extensive network of trained volunteers to respond to disasters like the tornadoes in Oklahoma this week. The Red Cross office in Rochester is offering its basic training course, “Sheltering Fundamentals,” next week as a way to train new volunteers who may be interested in responding to disasters.

The course is offered free of charge and will take place Wednesday, May 29 from 9am to noon at the Red Cross office at 310 14th Street SE. Pre-registration is required—please call the chapter office at 287-2200 to sign up.

About the American Red Cross:

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
